A recent analysis of pollution data in and around Delhi-NCR has revealed that 14 new locations have recorded an average drop in air quality. This analysis has been done by Delhi-based think tank Center for Science and Environment (CSE).
CSE said that in these 14 hot spots, more pollution has been recorded than other hot spots. The hot-spots studied by CSE included Alipore, DTU, ITO, Nehru Nagar, Patparganj, Sonia Vihar and Vivek Vihar in Delhi, Sector 1 and 116 in Noida, Loni, Sanjay Vihar and Indirapuram in Ghaziabad, Knowledge Park V in Greater Noida and Bulandshahr.
A CSE study said that this year also the PM level reached 2.5 during the lockdown, although the duration of the lockdown was also shorter and the restrictions were less like last time, so the pollution level could not remain as low as in 2020.
Last year there was less pollution in the lockdown
Let us inform that in March last year, after the lockdown caused by Corona, there was a significant drop in pollution. But this time the rules of lockdown were not very strict, so it did not make much difference.
Delhi’s pollution level had dropped by 20 percent due to the partial lockdown implemented from April 19, followed by another 12 percent during the complete lockdown that began on April 20.
With the lifting of lockdown restrictions from May 18, the level of PM 2.5 particles increased by 28 percent. According to CSE, the meteorological department will also be partly responsible for this, but the reason for this may also be due to the weak pollution control measures in the city and the surrounding area. In February-March of the year, 27 days were very poor in terms of air quality, while in 2020 it was 17 days and in 2019 only 12 days.
