The Center reported on Tuesday that 4 people were detected in India from the South African form of the SARS-COV-2 virus in January, while 1 person was reported to be infected with the Brazilian form of the virus in the first week of February.
ICMR Director General Balaram Bhargava said that 4 people returned from outside India were confirmed to be infected with the South African form of the virus. Of the infected, 2 people returned from South Africa while 1-1 returned from Angola and Tanzania. All the passengers and the people in contact with them have been examined and kept in quarantine.
He said that ‘ICMR-NIV’ is trying to separate the South African form from the samples of these 4 infected people and collect other information. In the first week of February, 1 person returned from Brazil has been confirmed to be infected with the Brazilian form of the virus.
The Union Health Ministry said on Tuesday that in the last 24 hours, no deaths have been reported in 17 states and union territories due to Covid-19 and no new cases of infection have been reported in 6 of them. According to the data, the number of such people has increased to 1,06,33,025 with 11,805 more patients recovering in 1 day. The recovery rate of patients in India has been 97.32 percent. In this context, India is among the countries where this rate is the highest.
The ministry underlined that the difference between the healthy people and the patients under treatment has increased to 1,04,96,153. The ministry said that in another positive development, the recovery rate of patients in 31 states and union territories was higher than the national average. The rate of recovery of patients in Daman and Diu and Dadra and Nagar Haveli is 99.88 percent.
According to the ministry, there have been no deaths from corona in the last 24 hours in 17 states and union territories. These include Lakshadweep, Sikkim, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Gujarat, Chandigarh, Jammu Kashmir, Meghalaya, Ladakh, Manipur, Haryana, Andaman and Nicobar Islands, Rajasthan, Nagaland, Tripura, Arunachal Pradesh and Daman and Diu and Dadra and Nagar Haveli.
The ministry said that no new cases of infection have been reported in the last 24 hours in 6 states and union territories. These include Sikkim, Meghalaya, Andaman and Nicobar Islands, Nagaland, Tripura, Daman and Diu and Dadra and Nagar Haveli. The number of patients under treatment of Covid-19 in the country has come down to 1.36 lakh, which is just 1.25 percent of the total cases.
According to the data, by 8 am on February 16, the number of health workers and front-line warriors who had vaccinated Covid-19 in the country has exceeded 87 lakhs. Covid vaccination campaign in the country was started on 16 January. According to the provisional report, 87,20,822 beneficiaries have been vaccinated through 1,84,303 sessions. The number of health workers in these are 61,07,120 (first dose) and 1,60,291 (second dose). With this, 24,53,411 warriors of the frontline (first dose) have been vaccinated.
A total of 4,35,527 beneficiaries were vaccinated on the 31st day of the vaccination campaign (15 February 2021). Of them, 2,99,797 beneficiaries were given the first dose while 1,35,730 people were given the second dose of the vaccine. The ministry said that 9,121 new cases of infection were reported in the last 24 hours of which 80.54 percent of the cases are from 5 states.
