The Supreme Court on Monday has issued a notice to this messaging app and center regarding WhatsApp’s new privacy policy. The court has sought a response from the Center and the messaging app on a petition within 4 weeks.
In this petition, WhatsApp has been accused of having a lower standard of privacy for Indians than European users. This information has been given in a report by The Indian Express.
On the plea seeking to stop WhatsApp from implementing its new privacy policy in India, the Supreme Court admitted that there are serious concerns about privacy among the people and privacy is more important to them than money.
Chief Justice SA Bobde has issued notice on the interim application of Karamanya Singh Sarin. This notice has been issued on an interim application filed in a pending petition of 2017.
The Supreme Court said that people have serious apprehension that they will lose their privacy, and it is our duty to protect them.
Apart from this, the Supreme Court said, “People value their privacy more than the value of the company, which can be in trillions”.
WhatsApp told the Supreme Court that the same privacy policy is applicable in all countries except European countries, because European countries have special data protection laws. The company said that if there is such a law in India, it will follow it.
