Famous American pop star Rihanna is in the headlines once again. The reason is a new controversy. Rihanna posted a seminude photo on Twitter on 16 February. The controversy over this photo occurred in India because the locket that Rihanna is wearing in this photo looks very much like the idol of Lord Ganesha. After this, many people started criticizing Rihanna’s post. The BJP leader has strongly criticized this post. At the same time, Vishwa Hindu Parishad has made a complaint against the Twitter and Facebook CEO in Delhi and Mumbai Police about this.
Protests started on social media
BJP spokesperson Ram Kadam, opposing the post on Twitter, wrote that, “‘The way Rihanna has made fun of our Lord Ganesha, it is lousy. It is a clear testimony that Rihanna has no respect for Indian culture, tradition and issues. At least now Rahul Gandhi and Congress leaders will stop taking his help.”
Many more people are criticizing this post on social media and seeing it as an insult to Hindu deities. At the same time, some other Twitter users say that this is Rihanna’s public relation (PR) stunt, she wants to keep discussing about them so she is doing it.
VHP raised questions on Twitter
Vinod Bansal, the National Spokesperson of the Vishwa Hindu Parishad, has opposed Rihanna’s post by tweeting and asked questions on Twitter,
Is this tweet and the twitter handle @rihanna doesn’t qualify to be suspended by the @Twitter@TwitterIndia ? I alongwith many Hindus hv already reported it. @MinOfCultureGoI@rsprasad to please look into it.
VHP’s complaint to police
Apart from this, Vinod Bansal has also filed a complaint against the CEO of Twitter and Facebook in Delhi Police and Mumbai Police and has demanded to delete Rihanna’s Twitter account, describing the tweet as anti India and anti Hindu.
