KYC of every sim will be necessary
New guidelines will come soon to fix accountability on SIM sellers on the basis of fraud documents. Along with this, KYC will have to be done in the business connection system that will be brought in place of bulk connection. That is, KYC of every SIM will be made necessary. Vaishnav said that the government is going to make digital verification necessary by scanning the QR code printed on the card to prevent misuse of Aadhaar card. Along with this, facial based biometric has also been allowed. 66 thousand WhatsApp accounts linked to fraud numbers have also been closed.
How is the link of cyber fraud made?
For some time now the problem of cyber fraud and fraud calls had taken the form of an Pandemic. Indian WhatsApp users were getting calls from international numbers. Sanchar Saathi portal was launched in the month of May to combat spam calls and frauds. The government had also told at that time that it is talking to WhatsApp about this and all OTT platforms are ready to cooperate in this regard. The effect of which is now visible and such WhatsApp accounts have been closed. Actually, in the study done by the government, it has been revealed that the problem lies with the dealers. Most of the dealers do not do proper verification due to which the SIMs are easily available to the fraudsters. This creates a link to cyber fraud. The government claims that it is taking maximum strictness at the dealers’ level to break this chain.
