How to get Income Tax Refund:Are you also among those who filed their Income Tax Return (ITR) several weeks before the deadline, but are still waiting for your tax refund? If yes, then first of all you should understand that just filing ITR on time does not guarantee that your tax refund will come to your bank account soon. Tax refund comes only after ITR is processed. Any obstacle during this processing can block the way to your refund. Generally, tax refund should be received within 4-5 weeks of ITR processing. But if you have not received the refund within this period, then you may need to take further steps. This important step is to send a ‘refund re-issue’ request.
How to check refund status
You should keep checking your email and SMS because if the tax department is unable to process your tax refund for any reason, you will be notified of it. Apart from this, you can check the status of your tax refund by visiting the ITR e-filing website. If the status of your tax refund is given as ‘Refund failure’ due to incorrect bank account information, or if the refund has been issued but has not been deposited in your account due to address error or any other technical problem, then you will have to request for re-issuance of income tax refund.

How to file‘Refund Re-issue’ Request
step 1:Visit the ITR e-filing portal and login using your credentials.
Step 2: Go to the ‘Services’ tab and click on the ‘Refund Reissue’ button inside it.
Step 3: A new webpage will open and you will have to click on ‘Create Refund Reissue Request’. After this, select the ITR for which you want to submit the refund reissue request.
Step 4:After this click on Next and select the bank account where you want to receive the refund (if the account selected by you is not validated then you will have to validate it first).
Step 5: After this click on ‘Proceed’ and then choose any one for verification – Aadhaar OTP, EVC or DSC.
EVC means Electronic Verification Code. It is a 10 digit alphanumeric code which is sent to your registered mobile number. DSAC means Digital Signature Certificate which verifies the identity of the person doing the digital signature. If you have this certificate, then you can also do verification through your digital signature.

What to do if this doesn’t work?
After filing a ‘Refund Re-issue’ request, your problem should be resolved. Or you should get a response from the Income Tax Department as to why your refund is stuck. But if there is a lot of delay in processing your refund without any clear reason and no response is received for a long time even after filing a ‘Refund Re-issue’ request, or if the refund amount deposited in your account is not correct, then you will have to register your complaint with the Income Tax Department. For this, you will have to use the grievance redressal system of the Income Tax Department.
