Just before the upcoming assembly elections in West Bengal, the dispute between the old leaders of the BJP and the people who have recently joined the party has come to the fore. Protests and vandalism were witnessed at many places in West Bengal on Sunday over the BJP’s ticket distribution.
Let us know that the BJP on Sunday released a list of 63 candidates in view of the voting in 75 seats under the third and fourth phases in West Bengal. Elections are being held in the state in eight phases.
Releasing the list of candidates, BJP general secretary Arun Singh said that Babul Supriyo will contest assembly elections from Tollygunge, while Bengali actress and Hooghly MP Locket Chatterjee has been nominated by the party from Chunchura assembly seat in his own parliamentary constituency.
As soon as the names of the BJP candidates were announced, protests began in many parts of the state. Opposition started in North Bengal to make former chief economic advisor to the government, Ashok Lahiri, a candidate from Alipurduar seat and to leave the Gorkha Janmukti Morcha to the Bishal Lama in the BJP from Kalachini and local leaders took to the streets.
In Hooghly district, activists resented and vandalized the candidate from Rabindranath Bhattacharya who joined BJP from Trinamool.
Tanushree Chakraborty has been given a ticket from Shyampur, who has recently joined BJP. At the same time, angry BJP workers vandalized the party office on getting ticket to Mohitlal Valley from Panchla seat in Howrah district. Many district level leaders also resigned from the party for not getting tickets.
Meanwhile, Sovan Chatterjee, who recently joined the BJP after leaving the Trinamool Congress, and Baisakhi Bandyopadhyay, along with him, left the saffron party due to lack of tickets. Chatterjee has been representing the Behala East seat for many decades, from here the ticket was given to Payal Sarkar, who has recently joined the party. In the resignation letter sent to state BJP president Dilip Ghosh, Chatterjee accused BJP of humiliating him.
