BJP National Vice President Mukul Roy is likely to join Trinamool Congress. A decision in this regard will be taken after his meeting with top party leaders in Kolkata on Friday. News agency ANI has given this information quoting sources.
After Trinamool MP Abhishek Banerjee reached the hospital on June 2 to see Mukul Roy’s ailing wife, there was speculation that the political equations in the state may change. An indication of this was found when Roy did not attend the meeting convened by the state BJP leadership on Tuesday.
After Abhishek went to the hospital, Prime Minister Narendra Modi also called Mukul Roy and inquired about the well being of his ailing wife. However, amidst speculations of Roy’s return to TMC, an attempt was made to figure out the political meaning of this move.
Let us tell you that before joining the BJP, Roy was the General Secretary in Trinamool Congress. He joined BJP in 2017.
Several former leaders of the defecting TMC have expressed their desire to return to Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee’s camp in the past few weeks, including former MLAs Sonali Guha and Dipendu Biswas.
Sonali, who was a four-time MLA from Satgachia in South 24 Parganas, wrote in a letter that just as a fish cannot live outside the water, similarly Didi (Mamata), ‘I will not be able to live without you.’
Recently, media reports said that at least 33 BJP MLAs want to leave the party and go to TMC. In such a situation, after the victory of TMC in the recent assembly elections of West Bengal, the political stir in the state has once again intensified.
Meanwhile, political experts believe that the TMC will be ready to return only a very few leaders, so that before the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, a message can be sent to the party workers that rebellion will not be tolerated.
