Zack Snyder reveals details of his director’s cut of Rebel Moon
Shortly after the project was announced, Zack Snyder confirmed that Rebel Moon Part 1: The Fire Girl It was going to have an extended version, which will show a much more adult tone to the point of obtaining an R rating instead of the PG-13 rating of the “commercial” version.
Now, in a recent interview for Entertainment Weeklythe filmmaker has guaranteed that the R rating of the director’s cut of Rebel Moon is more than justified.
“I had written the script, in a vacuum, just as I would with my normal aesthetic: very hard, very sexy, violent, crazy, everything is turned on 11,” says the filmmaker, who adds that at first his thought process with Rebel Moon was that he could “collapse it into an adventure for a broader audience,” but Netflix convinced him to “return to its subversive R-rated original.”
“I thought, ‘Yeah, that would be cool.’ And they said, ‘Then we could have, you know, you could do your thing and we could have that as a separate piece of, you know, this content (…). I’m very proud of the PG-13 version of the movie. I really am.
I think it’s really funny and it’s clean and cool, but again, the kind of weird darkness of the R-rated version, if that was my original thesis about what the movie could be, that’s what we did. “That’s what we did in the R-rated version,” adds the director.
