52! “Land of Hope” is the TelevisaUnivision soap opera that airs at nine at night in the United States. The story starring Santos and María Teresa consists of 60 episodes and at this moment on Univision we are already on chapter 52, eight separate us from the grand finale.
From its opening day, this story, a remake of “La Tormenta”, captured the Hispanic public, who placed it in first place in Univision’s prime-time slot. This week, for example, the soap opera obtained a rating of 1.7 million viewers, according to Final Nielsen Overnight Ratings.
Looking at the numbers we realize that “Vuelve A Mí”, the new Telemundo soap opera, has a difficult task, since in its premiere week, even though it has managed to capture the public’s attention, it fights for an audience that is already completely committed with the love story of Santos and María Teresa, alias “harvard”.
Even though the premise that we see in “Land of Hope” is already known by the viewing public, the performances of its entire cast have managed to position this production by José Alberto Castro as one of the most viewed in both Mexico and the United States. Characters like those of Mariana Seoane and Luis Roberto Guzmán have greatly enriched each chapter, the emotional and passionate tension they contain, as well as the past they hide, contribute greatly to what we see between the protagonists. Characters like those of Martha Julia and Natalia EsperanThey add an interesting color to this drama, since both characters are each other’s nemesis, without knowing it.
The impeccable work we see from Nuria Bages and Alejandro TommasiIt shows us that the more stories that intervene in the happiness and unhappiness of the protagonists, the greater connection the actors will obtain with the viewing public, because it is the contexts of these characters that link us with the past of Santos and the present of María Teresa.
Regarding his character, Alejandro Tommasi shares with us the facets that lead him to not want to return to the place where he was so happy, and where he also lost his heart. Watch our talk here.
Nurgia Barges, for her part, tells us about Remedios, about what has her anchored in that town where many love her, but the most powerful hate her. Here our conversation with the famous Mexican actress:
“Come back to me” from Telemundo
The Final Nielsen Overnight Ratings numbers certainly do not favor the soap opera starring William Levy and Samadhi Zendejas. This Wednesday, the fourth chapter of this dramatic and romantic story received 611,000 viewers.
The soap opera, the story and the performances are not the problem. On the contrary, each actor who is part of this project really contributes a lot, since all of them have not only complemented each other perfectly, but also assumed their dramatic load in such a way that everything they experience on stage comes off the screen and connects with the public.
The problem with this Telemundo story is that it came to compete with three telenovelas in prime-time on Univision that have been positioning their respective stories in the emotions of the Hispanic public for months. We are talking about: “Eternally Loving Each Other”, “Land of Hope” and “Mines of Passion”. Three romantic and dramatic stories that have important backgrounds and that also make interesting criticisms of social problems in Latin America such as patriarchy, matriarchy, abuse, violence and wage inequality between men and women.
The story of “Come Back to Me” is rich and exciting. It also highlights serious social problems in countries like Mexico. It reveals the emotional persecutions that many women go through with the sole desire of being mothers. However, history takes time. Time for viewers to become engaged with the situations, with the problems and with the love story that little by little will emerge between its protagonists.
On the other hand, below we share a series of interviews with Univision’s most watched soap operas. Watch our conversation with the producer of “Mines of Passion”, Pedro Ortiz de Pinedo, whose rating this Wednesday was 1.3 million viewers. It is worth adding that this story was the last to premiere on Univision, compared to “Eternally Loving Each Other” and “Land of Hope”.
Watch here our interview with the protagonist of “Eternally Loving Each Other”Marcus Ornelas, whose rating this Wednesday was 1.5 million viewers.
