A press statement regarding the Aqsa Flood by the Movement’s Political Bureau Member, Husam Bedran, was published on the official website of the Hamas Movement.
Bedran stated in his statement that “the operation was a first-degree defensive operation as a response to the violations of the Israeli occupation in Palestine, targeting Israeli military bases and centers.”
Bedran denied Israeli allegations that Hamas’s armed forces “killed Israeli civilians” and said:
“Our religion forbids us from touching and targeting civilians. Hamas fighters have followed the advice of Qassam Brigades Commander Abu Khalid Dayf, as he explained in his videos, that civilians should not be touched.”
Bedran also called on the Islamic and Arab world to stand by the standing Palestinian people.
Israeli-Palestinian conflict
Hamas’s armed wing, Izz al-Din al-Qassam Brigades, launched a comprehensive attack on Israel on the morning of October 7, called the “Aqsa Flood”.
While thousands of rockets were fired from Gaza towards Israel, Palestinian armed groups raided and seized the Beit Hanun-Erez Border Gate on the Gaza-Israel border.
Armed groups then entered the settlements within Israel from here, and the Israeli army launched an attack on the Gaza Strip with dozens of warplanes.
It was reported that 1200 Israelis lost their lives in the attacks carried out from Gaza.
The Palestinian Ministry of Health announced that 1,100 people died and 5,339 people were injured in Gaza in Israel’s attacks.
The Ministry stated that the number of Palestinians killed in the attacks in the occupied West Bank reached 29 and the number of injured reached approximately 150.
