Thiruvananthapuram: The Central Meteorological Department has forecast heavy rains in the coming days in the state. Orange and yellow alerts have been issued in various districts in the coming days. Yellow alert in six districts tomorrow.

Yellow Alert

  • July 21, 2021: Pathanamthitta, Alappuzha, Kottayam, Ernakulam, Idukki and Kannur
  • July 22, 2021: Kollam, Pathanamthitta, Alappuzha, Kottayam, Ernakulam, Thrissur, Malappuram, Wayanad, Kannur and Kasaragod
  • July 23, 2021: Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Pathanamthitta, Alappuzha, Kottayam, Thrissur, Malappuram, Kozhikode, Wayanad and Kasaragod
  • July 24, 2021: Ernakulam, Thrissur, Malappuram, Kozhikode, Wayanad, Kannur and Kasaragod

The Central Meteorological Department has issued a Yellow Alert for heavy rains in the districts. Heavy rainfall of 64.5 mm to 115.5 mm in 24 hours.

Orange alert

  • July 23, 2021: Ernakulam, Idukki and Kannur

The Central Meteorological Department has issued an orange alert in the districts. Heavy or very heavy rain is forecast. Isolated showers are likely to receive 64.5 mm to 204.4 mm in 24 hours.

The Disaster Management Authority (DMA) has warned people in low-lying areas, riverbanks and landslide-prone areas to be extra vigilant in case of heavy rains in the last few days.

People living in dangerous areas should be cautious as the sea level rise is likely to intensify on various coasts. Stay away from the required stage. It is also suggested that fishing gear be kept safe.

The Central Meteorological Department has said that fishing will not be allowed off the coasts of Kerala, Karnataka and Lakshadweep from July 20 to 24, 2021.
