The Chinese President Xi Jinping recently reiterated the urgency of developing a robust and modernized information support force for the Chinese military. During an inspection on December 4, 2024 at the information support forces of the Chinese People’s Liberation Army (PLA), highlighted the need to carry out advanced development in the country’s military network information system.
Xi, who also holds the roles of general secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China (CPC) and chairman of the Central Military Commission (CMC), emphasized the growing role that networked information systems play in modern warfare. During the event, he said improving this system is vital to China’s national security and combat effectiveness.
The Chinese president urged an acceleration in efforts to strengthen the capabilities of the network information system, calling a significant improvement in the ability of information support forces to serve and sustain military readiness and combat capabilities. Xi stressed the importance of ensuring network information security and called for innovations in command modes and transformation of combat methods. Reaffirming the fundamental principle of the Party’s absolute leadership over the military, Xi called for a concerted effort to improve conduct, strengthen discipline and fight corruption within the military. He stressed that the forces must be completely loyal, pure and reliable.
The Chinese leader also asked the Party Committee of Information Support Forces to take responsibility in developing the force, aiming to train a team of highly competent professionals. Xi called for coordinated efforts by the CMC and other relevant authorities and units to promote the development of information support forces.
