The RMIT University team got off to a pretty good start in the Ho Chi Minh City regional qualifying round, football tournament Adolescent Vietnamese students 3rd – 2025 THACO Cup. In the opening match against Gia Dinh University team, RMIT University team took the lead twice (1-0 and 2-1). In turn, Nguyen Do Minh Hieu and Sengduangmisay Salavut (Laos) scored for the RMIT University team. On the opposite side, Le Vu Bao (40+2 minutes) and Vo Nguyen Kiem Anh (80+5 minutes) were the names who scored to help the Gia Dinh University team regain 1 valuable point.
Not being able to maintain concentration in the extra minutes caused the “rich team” to regretfully drop 3 points. “It’s really a pity that the team couldn’t get 3 points in the opening match. The two situations where we conceded a goal were the same, with only 1 minute left in extra time, we were equalized. We will improve. However, the players of the RMIT University team played with 200% effort, in accordance with my expectations,” head coach Vo Trung Kien expressed.
According to Coach Trung Kien, the RMIT University team needs to improve their physical fitness. Because the 2 goals lost in extra time came from the players being tired, cramping… so they couldn’t maintain concentration and follow the opponent. If the physical limitations can be overcome, the RMIT University team promises to become more difficult.
Prominent in the RMIT University squad is Lao “foreigner” Sengduangmisay Salavut, who scored in the first match. Regarding the Lao player, coach Trung Kien commented: “The Lao student player is one of the best individuals of the RMIT University team. He is a key factor in our playing style, besides The players wear the captain’s armband. These two guys are the nucleus that I believe can help the RMIT University team control the match as well as solve the scoring problem.”
“This is the first time I have led the RMIT University team to participate in the 11th field soccer tournament. So when the players asked the question, I only dared to say that we will participate in the tournament with the mindset of being the weakest team in the group. This will create the most comfortable mentality for the players. But when we play, we all play with 200% effort. If we perform well, we will get good results.
The RMIT University team has 2 more matches in group 3, meeting the Ho Chi Minh City University of Industry team (on January 4) and the Van Lang University team (on January 9), both of which are very strong. We still keep the same spirit, still playing with 200% effort. In football, you can’t predict anything, maybe there will be surprises,” coach Trung Kien added.
