During the meeting, the Chief Minister will bring to the notice of the Prime Minister the requirements including the Silver Line permit. The CM will be required to give final approval for the project. The Chief Minister will inform the Prime Minister that the cause of the current controversy and protests is part of a political interest.

According to reports, a crucial decision will be taken at the meeting as the Center has stated that the project cannot be sanctioned for the time being as the DPR is incomplete. The Chief Minister had met the Prime Minister in July last year seeking his support for projects like Silver Line and Thiruvananthapuram Light Metro.

The aim of the meeting is to quell opposition from the Center to the project. The Railway Minister had earlier expressed concern in the Lok Sabha over the environmental issues of the project. The state government is confident that the project will get approval despite controversy and opposition. The Modi-Pinarayi meeting is crucial for the state BJP unit as parties, including the BJP, are intensifying protests against the project.
