Previously, on the same morning, Tan Tai’s anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction surgery was successfully performed by the experienced team of Van Hanh Hospital. He suffered this injury in the semi-final second leg between Vietnam and Singapore at Viet Tri Stadium in late December 2024. Initially, doctors diagnosed that Tan Tai only had a ligament injury, not a rupture, so he did not need surgery.

But on the morning of January 13, after a re-examination, Tan Tai was determined to have a complete rupture of the anterior cruciate ligament in his knee, a torn meniscus and needed surgery. The reason for the misdiagnosis was that after the match against Singapore, there was still a lot of fluid in Tan Tai’s knee, there was bruising and muscle tension, causing the film image to be inaccurate.
Right on January 13, VFF leaders and Binh Duong Club discussed, discussed and agreed on the best treatment and recovery plan for Tan Tai. The two sides decided to let the defender born in 1997 have surgery in Ho Chi Minh City. After 4 more days, he will switch to physical therapy and recovery at the RTD Rehab Injury Rehabilitation Center with Vietnam team doctor Tran Huy Tho. It is expected that he can return to the field in 8-9 months.
