‘Where is Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam…?’ Shashi Tharoor asked question after ban on entry of ‘non-Hindu’ artist in temple

Artist barred from performing in Kerala temple: Kerala’s decision to ban a ‘non-Hindu’ artist from performing in the temple premises has gained momentum. A section of people has reacted sharply to this decision of the temple management. He has strongly criticized this decision. He believes that this will not send a good message in the society. Senior Congress leader and MP Shashi Tharoor is also among those who think similarly. He has taken a jibe at this whole incident and questioned whether this is Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam.

The whole matter is related to Bharatnatyam dancer Manasiya VP. She was to perform at the 10-day National Dance and Music Festival. It is organized by the famous Kudalmanikyam temple. This temple is built in Irinjalakuda near Thrissur, Kerala.

However, on Monday, Manasiya told that the temple authorities refused to allow her the performance. This step was taken despite the announcement of his name in the program notice. Manasiya was born in a Muslim family. She says that the organizers told over the phone that she could not perform. When Manasiya asked the reason, the organizers said that non-Hindus are not allowed in the temple.

Congress MP and former Union Minister Shashi Tharoor reacted to this development. He said that other religions make every effort to attract others to join. Respect their religion. The doors of mosques, churches, gurudwaras are open for all. But, some fellow Hindus prefer to close our temples to outsiders. Taking to Twitter, he asked, ‘Where is Vasudhaiv Kutumbakam?’

According to news agency PTI, Kudalmanikyam Devaswom President Pradeep Menon said that the decision to ban the artist is part of the temple tradition. He said that since the program is taking place inside the temple premises. Hence, the decision was taken following the tradition of the temple.

Menon said, “As per the current temple tradition, non-Hindus are not allowed. Even the advertisement of the program clearly stated that only Hindus need to apply to perform in the temple.
