According to the Meteorological Department, the deep pressure over the East-Central Bay of Bengal has turned into cyclonic storm ‘Remal’. The storm is expected to hit the coast between Sagar Island of West Bengal and Khepupara of Bangladesh at midnight today. Heavy rains are also expected in some parts of Northeast India on 27-28 May. At the same time, other parts of India are facing scorching heat. According to the IMD, the mercury rose to 50 degrees Celsius in Phalodi, Rajasthan, which was the highest temperature recorded in India since June 1, 2019.
Heat wave will wreak havoc in these states

Cyclone Remal will hit the Bengal coast in the next few hours
A red alert has been issued in the coastal districts of West Bengal today and tomorrow. The deep depression over the east-central Bay of Bengal has turned into a cyclonic storm ‘Remal’. The storm is expected to hit the coast between Sagar Island of West Bengal and Khepupara of Bangladesh at midnight today, which has warned of extremely heavy rainfall in the coastal districts of West Bengal and North Odisha today and tomorrow. The storm that reached the coastal areas of Bengal and Odisha is expected to intensify further this morning and it will cross the West Bengal and adjoining Bangladesh coasts between Sagar Island and Khepupara around midnight on Sunday with a speed of 110 to 120 kmph gusting to 135 kmph.
The IMD has issued a warning of extremely heavy rainfall in coastal areas of West Bengal and North Odisha on May 26 and 27. A red alert has been issued for the coastal districts of South and North 24 Parganas of West Bengal for May 26-27, with extremely heavy rainfall expected in some areas. An orange alert is in effect for Kolkata, Howrah, Nadia and East Medinipur districts. More than 300 Air India flights have been canceled from Kolkata airport in view of the possible impact of cyclonic storm Remal. A total of 394 international and national flights have been canceled from the airport for 21 hours from Sunday afternoon. Apart from this, some areas of Northeast India may also receive extremely heavy rainfall on May 27-28.

There may be rain in these northeastern states
The effect of cyclonic storm Remal is going to be seen mainly in the coastal areas of West Bengal. According to the Meteorological Department, there is a possibility of rain with strong winds in the northeastern states of Tripura, Assam, Nagaland and Manipur. The Regional Meteorological Center in Tripura has also predicted storm and rain on May 26. The effect of cyclonic storm Remal can also be seen in Jharkhand and Bihar.
Heavy rain expected in Kerala
The Meteorological Department (IMD) on Saturday expressed hope that the southwest monsoon will advance into Kerala. It indicated that heavy rains are expected in Kerala from 26 to 29 May.
