Proud coach Nguyen Tuan Kiet and the women’s volleyball team
It is no coincidence that the Vietnamese women’s volleyball team was honored in 10 cultural, sports and tourism events in Vietnam in 2024 and is the only sporting event to receive this honor.
The girls of the Vietnamese women’s volleyball team excellently won the title of champion of the AVC Challenger Asia tournament and won tickets to attend the FIVB Challenger world tournament. Coach Nguyen Tuan Kiet and his team also created a historic milestone with a bronze medal at the FIVB Challenger World Championship. Moreover, the achievement of ranking 4th at the Asian Championship also brought Vietnamese women’s volleyball to a new page in history when they first won tickets to attend the world volleyball championship where 32 of the best teams gathered.
A BUSY YEAR
In 2025, Vietnamese women’s volleyball will be busy when the team competes in many important international tournaments such as SEA Games 33, world volleyball championship (in Thailand), SEA V.League, and Asian championship. In addition, the Vietnamese youth team also participated in the U.21 World Cup.
The success of Vietnamese women’s volleyball has not stopped when the U.20 team ranked 5th in Asia, thereby winning the right to participate in the U.21 World Cup in 2025. The success of Vietnamese youth volleyball shows some of the investment Investing in talent, effective succession of talented people. At the club level, Vietnamese women’s volleyball also flourished when for the first time a club won the right to participate in the final round of the World Women’s Club Championship. LPBank Ninh Binh Club won runner-up at the Asian Club Championship, thereby representing Vietnamese women’s volleyball to attend the World Club Championship taking place in Hangzhou (China).
Need breakthrough investment
Win tickets to attend the 2025 World Volleyball Championship, but in this prestigious playground, the opportunity for the Vietnamese women’s volleyball team to advance deeply, even earning just 1 win is difficult…
“We have to look straight at the fact that the level of Vietnamese women’s volleyball is at a competitive level on the continent, in the Southeast Asia region we must find a way to defeat the number 1 opponent Thailand, and in the championship The world championship is a big playground, we participate mainly to experience and learn. To compete in a big tournament like the world championship, Vietnamese volleyball needs a process,” Mr. Le Tri Truong, President. Secretary of Vietnam Volleyball Federation, said.
One of the problems that experts, even the head coach of the Vietnamese women’s volleyball team, wants is how the team can focus on the long term to be well prepared for important international tournaments. However, in the context of Vietnamese sports, especially volleyball, it is not yet operating under a professional model. Clubs need troops to compete in the national championship and other tournaments, so it is difficult to focus on long-term teams. “We strive to build an increasingly professional national championship with the hope that more clubs will invest heavily in volleyball. From there, many talents will be produced for Vietnamese volleyball. At the team level, we will practice focused on each stage, depending on the proposal of the Board of Directors to achieve specific goals,” Mr. Truong said.
A veteran coach said that Vietnamese women’s volleyball has a lot of potential but needs to be loosened in its approach. For example, clubs need to have foresight, invest heavily, and aim to compete not only in national tournaments but also international tournaments. At that time, Vietnamese athletes were able to compete with many strong opponents to improve their level. Vietnamese volleyball talents also need to be given favorable conditions by domestic clubs to go abroad to compete… At the team level, if long-term focus is not possible, they should go for international training and friendly competitions. with strong teams to forge and perfect.
