Vietnam vs Singapore: Xuan Son is ‘supported’ by Thanh Binh, Tien Linh and Duy Manh are reserves

Coach Kim Sang-sik has announced the list of 11 main players in the match between the Vietnam and Singapore teams, the first leg of the AFF Cup 2024 semi-finals, taking place at 8:00 p.m. on December 26.

The main starter in the wooden goal is goalkeeper Nguyen Dinh Trieu. After sharing the starting spot with Nguyen Filip in the group stage (each goalkeeper started 2 matches), Dinh Trieu was given confidence in the match against Singapore. Hai Phong’s goalkeeper is still highly appreciated for his ability to communicate and connect with teammates on the defensive line.

In defense, Nguyen Thanh Chung, Pham Xuan Manh and Bui Tien Dung are the three names chosen.

In midfield, Nguyen Hoang Duc partners with Nguyen Quang Hai in the center. While the two sides are Khuat Van Khang (left) and Truong Tien Anh (right).

On the offensive line, coach Kim Sang-sik arranged Bui Vi Hao and Dinh Thanh Binh on the two wings, supporting the main striker Nguyen Xuan Son.

The Vietnamese team has a 25-year streak of not losing to Singapore in all competitions. Along with force superiority and class difference, Mr. Kim set the goal of victory for his students.

“I’m very happy to be here. The Vietnamese team is ready to fight to win against Singapore,” coach Kim Sang-sik affirmed at the pre-match press conference.

The Singapore team ranked second in Group A with 7 points. Coach Tsutomu Ogura and his team won against Cambodia (2-1) and Timor Leste (3-0), drew with Malaysia (0-0) and lost to Thailand (2-4). This is only the second time Singapore has reached the AFF Cup semi-finals in the past 12 years, however, coach Kim Sang-sik is still wary.

“Singapore is a strong team. My colleagues and I have watched them play from live on the field to via television. We also dissected and analyzed Singapore through two meetings. The coaching staff and the players discussed how to play in the competition, including how to apply high-level pressure. All are ready,” coach Kim Sang-sik analyzed.

On the other side of the front line, coach Tsutomu Ogura analyzed: “Singapore has home field advantage. The players all have good spirit and solidarity. Hopefully the players will be in an ideal state both physically and mentally.” for the confrontation.

The Vietnamese team is very strong, but we have focused on analyzing our opponents. However, Singapore will pay attention to our individual performance, instead of focusing on Vietnam.”
