The Vietnam Football Federation (VFF) has just made a special move to support coach Kim Sang-sik and his team. VFF announced: “Installing a live match broadcast screen in Viet Tri To serve fans watching and cheering on the Vietnamese team playing tonight (December 21), the organizers will install a live match broadcast screen at Hung Vuong Square – Viet Tri City. Viet Tri fans can come to this place to watch and cheer.”
What did coach Kim Sang-sik say?
Before the final match in the group stage against Myanmar, the Vietnamese team was not sure of its place in the next round. However, coach Kim Sang-sik still dares to affirm: “We are very confident in the preparation stage. In the long term, we have a plan for the final.” Maybe when speaking like that, the Korean strategist will be judged as overconfident.
Because in the previous 3 matches, the Vietnamese team did not play too impressively. On the opening day, Quang Hai and his teammates had to wait until the Laos team was exhausted in the second half to score a goal. Against an Indonesia that did not have the strongest force (unable to call naturalized players, Marselino Ferdinan was suspended), the “Golden Star Warriors” also struggled to win 1-0. As for the confrontation with the Philippine team, we played deadlocked and had to rely on the opponent’s goalkeeper’s mistake to equalize 1-1.
And what was done?
But perhaps, coach Kim Sang-sik is confident in himself. The Vietnamese team has not yet shown convincing playing style, but we must admit that Mr. Kim left some traces in reading the match and making substitutions. When the plan to pour the ball behind the Laos defense was deadlocked, the captain of the Vietnamese team sent a series of pillars Quang Hai, Van Toan, and Tuan Hai onto the field and changed the attack plan to pressing right on the field. Opponent, coordinate in small groups, pass more short. Thanks to that, the Vietnamese team scored 3 more goals.
In the match against Indonesia, Quang Hai was initially placed in central midfield with Doan Ngoc Tan, allowing Hai Long and Hoang Duc to operate more freely. The players of CAHN Club sit quite deep so they cannot exploit their full potential. In the second half, coach Kim Sang-sik adjusted a series of personnel and tactics, the most important of which was pulling Hoang Duc to the middle of the field, letting Quang Hai play higher than in the first half. This plan was developed. It was effective when Quang Hai continuously threatened the Indonesian team’s goal and scored a beautiful goal to bring victory to the Vietnamese team.
In the confrontation with the Philippines, coach Kim Sang-sik also actively changed. At the end of the second half, he changed from 3-4-3 to 4-3-3. The Vietnamese team at that time played with 4 strikers: Vi Hao, Tien Linh, Tuan Hai, Van Toan. The pressure that the Philippine team has to endure is greater. The Vietnamese team also received many corner kicks at the end of the match. And from one of them, plus the opponent’s goalkeeper’s mistake, Ngoc Tan scored the equalizer for the Vietnamese team.
Compared to previous coaches, coach Kim Sang-sik actively creates more change and transformation. A player may have to play many positions to help the Vietnamese team have tactical diversity, thereby causing surprises for opponents. His substitution plans also have many tactical elements, instead of just changing two players playing in the same position. In general, Coach Kim’s ability to read the game and improvise is quite good. This could be the “weapon” that makes him confident in the Vietnamese team’s ability to reach the final.
But first, coach Kim Sang-sik needs to continue to demonstrate his ability to read the game well in the match against the Myanmar team on the evening of December 21, thereby helping the Vietnamese team win and enter the semi-finals as Group B winners.
