A Venezuelan migrant was accused of raping a woman in front of a three-year-old boyaccording to authorities in upstate New York on Tuesday.
The subject identified as Jesús Guzmán Bermúdez, 26, was accused of holding the victim’s head while sexually abusing her in a hotel room in Cheektowaga, Erie County, last week.
According to that county’s district attorney, John Flynn, Guzmán was arraigned Friday for one count of first degree rape, second degree unlawful imprisonment, endangering the welfare of a child, and second degree harassment.
The Hispanic suspect was taken into custody without bail, and if found guilty, could face up to 25 years in prison.
According to prosecutors, the suspect and the victim knew each other, and the 3-year-old was her son, who was also in the room.
“It wasn’t like an incident where this individual went out into town, grabbed a victim, and brought them back to the hotel room. That is not the case here. Clearly, they knew each other,” Flynn told WBEN.
The prosecutor specified that it was the fourth incident between migrants in the county, noting that the first three were petty thefts, which in his opinion were “very small crimes”, and highlighted that 95% of migrants comply with the laws.
“This disgusting individual was brought to Western New York courtesy of the failed Democratic ‘sanctuary’ and open border policies that have created chaos across our country, state and now here in Western New York,” recalled the Republican leader. of the Senate, Rob Ortt.
