Who will contest Rae Bareli, Amethi Lok Sabha Election from Congress: The entire country’s eyes are on two such Lok Sabha seats of Uttar Pradesh, where Congress has not yet declared the names of its candidates. These two seats are of Rae Bareli and Amethi. The Nehru-Gandhi family has a decades-old relationship with both the Lok Sabha constituencies. But in this Lok Sabha elections, the names of Congress candidates on both these seats remain a suspense story. This is happening because former Congress President Sonia Gandhi, who contested the elections from Rae Bareli, this time chose the path of going from Rajya Sabha to Parliament instead of Lok Sabha due to increasing age and weak health. At the same time, Rahul Gandhi had to face defeat in Amethi in 2019, due to which there is a cloud of uncertainty over his candidature this time. In such a situation, new names are being discussed continuously for both the seats. While Priyanka Gandhi’s name is being discussed with great enthusiasm for Rae Bareli seat, the discussion about her husband Robert Vadra’s name for Amethi keeps gaining momentum. It is also being said that despite the defeat in the last election, Rahul Gandhi will contest from Amethi this time too, but his name will be announced only after the voting in Wayanad, Kerala is over. Overall, this time the suspense of Amethi and Rae Bareli is prolonging in the country’s general elections (General Election 2024).
Will Varun Gandhi return to his ancestors’ party?
Amidst all these speculations, another new discussion is now gaining momentum. It is being said that Varun Gandhi, another member of the Nehru-Gandhi family, may leave his current party BJP and return to his ancestors’ party Congress. If this happens, Congress can make him contest elections from any one of the traditional seats of the family. These speculations are gaining momentum because Varun Gandhi has been marginalized in BJP for a long time and his equations with the top leadership of the party are not considered good. Despite being the sitting BJP MP from Pilibhit, he was not even given a ticket.

Varun Gandhi also openly criticizes the policies of his own party’s governments on many important issues including the farmers’ movement. However, BJP has tried to stop Varun from becoming a complete rebel by giving ticket to his mother Maneka Gandhi from Sultanpur. Recently, such news also appeared in the media that BJP wants to field Varun against Priyanka Gandhi from Rae Bareli. But along with this, such news also came that Varun Gandhi has refused to contest elections against his sister.

Varun did not rule out returning to Congress!
Amidst all this speculation, according to a recent article by senior journalist Neerja Chaudhary published in the Indian Express, Varun Gandhi has neither confirmed nor denied the news of his return to Congress when asked about it. According to this article, when asked about this, Varun said, “It would not be right for me to publicly discuss such a conversation, which was done on the basis of maintaining confidentiality… Anyway, I have always believed that Elections should be about issues, not personalities.” Varun also refused to explain his statement further, but it is clear from his words that he has spoken with “the assurance of maintaining confidentiality”. If this conversation had taken place with the BJP leadership, perhaps they would have said that this is an internal matter between them and their party. But he did not say anything like that. Indications of his disillusionment with the current politics of BJP can also be found in the open letter he wrote to the people of Pilibhit last month. Anyway, in the Modi era BJP, when all election and political discussions start with personal attacks against Varun’s grandmother Indira Gandhi or great grandfather Jawaharlal Nehru, if he feels like making a ‘ghar-wapsi’ to his forefather’s party. If it is made, will it be surprising?
