The Copa del Rey became a relief for Valencia. Carlos Corberán’s team breathed four days after collapsing at Mestalla, in the final minutes, against Real Madrid and achieved a revitalizing victory that brings a smile to their face after several disastrous weeks and, incidentally, propels them to the round of 16 . Eldense, which also suffers from not losing the category, but in the Second Division, grew in its field, Nuevo Pepico Amat, and had its rival on the ropes, but lacked a finish and ended up defeated.

The tie went very much in their favor when Diego López found Sergi Canós in the heart of the area. The Valencian turned around and sent the ball into the net. Corberán’s team knew that Madrid was not facing them tonight and relaxed, feeling superior too soon. An error that encouraged Eldense to boldly go for the tie. Diego Collado had it in his right boot a minute after 0-1, but the shot of the new reinforcement of the Alicante team went wide.
Dani Ponz has no daggers up front and his options went away despite the fact that Eldense found its place in the game and detected, like so many others before, that the left flank of Valencia’s defense is the most fragile. Each attack put its fingers into the wound of the wing from which this struggling team is bleeding and gave Dimitrievski work. But he lacked a shot, or, rather, aim, to hurt Valencia. He paid dearly. At the end of the first half, Canós returned the gift to Diego López and the Asturian made it 0-2.
Corberán took advantage of his time in the locker room to impose a little more order. Valencia set out to get the ball to subdue, from possession, the team from the shoe city. The Valencian coach had a gesture of support for his squad, of faith in his players, responding to Hugo Guillamón’s mistake in the League, a mistake that cost him the defeat against Madrid, with the title at Nuevo Pepico Amat.
Valencia, which on Saturday plays a vital League match at the Ramón Sánchez Pizjuán against a Sevilla team that has just been eliminated in the Cup against Almería, will be in the draw for the round of 16 that takes place today at 1:00 p.m. in the headquarters of the Spanish Football Federation. The Valencian team was champion of the competition in 2019 against Barcelona and lost the 2022 final against Betis.
