The murder of Dalit village head’s husband took a new turn on Friday evening when his family refused to cremate the dead body. Apart from the administrative officers present on the spot, there was no effect of persuading all the people. Family members said that they would not perform the last rites of the dead body until their daughter arrived from Delhi.
The body of Arjun, husband of Bandoia’s Dalit woman village head, reached the village after 4 o’clock on Friday evening. As soon as the dead body reached the village, the police and administrative staff started talking to the family to conduct the last rites. Initially, the family also got ready for the funeral. After the family was ready, the tomb was also dug up to bury Arjun’s body. However, suddenly the family members once again burst. The family refused to bury the body, saying that they would not allow anyone until their daughter, Punita, living in Delhi, came home.
ADM Vandita Srivastava, present on the occasion, started trying to convince the family again. She assured to meet all the demands of family members but the family members were not ready. The administrative staff is upset after the family refuses the last rites.
Incident
In Bandoiiya village of Munshiganj police station in Amethi, the miscreants kidnapped the husband of a Dalit woman, village head, and burnt alive by pouring petrol. The severely scorched head husband died during treatment in the incident. Arjun’s housemates have recorded his statement on the mobile phone in the burnt condition, in which he is taking the name of five people from the village who burnt him. These five people – KK Tiwari, Ashutosh, Rajesh, Ravi and Santosh – have been named in the statement. Police have arrested three accused till the time of writing the news including a minor.
Arjun Prasad Kori (50), the husband of village head Chhotka of village Bandoiiya in Bhetua block, left for the market on Thursday evening. On not returning till 10 o’clock in the night, the family started looking for him. Meanwhile, at 11:56 pm, Ashish Tripathi from the village called the police and told that someone was burning in the premises behind his house.
As soon as the police reached the spot, the severely scorched person was identified as Arjun. Police immediately took Arjun to the CHC with the help of an ambulance. Where the doctors present referred him to the district hospital. Arjun died while on his way to the trauma center from the district hospital.
According to the village head, her husband was kidnapped while he is leaving for the market by Rajesh Mishra, Krishna Kumar Tiwari, Ravi Shankar, Santosh Kumar Tripathi, and Ashutosh. The kidnapped Arjuna rushed to the premises surrounded by the boundary wall behind Krishna Kumar’s house and burnt alive by pouring petrol on it. The accused escaped from the spot after he was engulfed in flames.
On the other hand, DM Arun Kumar, SP Dinesh Singh and other officers along with the forensic team arrived at the scene of the incident with the husband of Dalit woman Gram Pradhan and collected the evidence and sent the body for postmortem. The forensic team has recovered a plastic water bottle at the scene. The SP said that the police have arrested Krishna Kumar, Santosh and the minor after registering a case against five people on the village head. The remaining two accused are being searched.
