The US Treasury on Friday imposed sanctions against entities and individuals who it claims are involved in a network of “oil smuggling for the benefit of the Revolutionary Guards.”
“Senior officials of the Al-Quds Force are using the proceeds from Iranian oil exports to finance destabilizing activities in the region,” the US Treasury Department said in a statement.
The same source also explained that the US sanctions concern, in addition to the Iranians, the Omanis, Mahmood Rashid Amur Al Habsi, who “facilitated the sale and export of Iranian oil through his companies in order to conceal the involvement of the Al-Quds Force affiliated with the Islamic Revolutionary Guards in this trafficking.
The United States frequently imposes sanctions against Iranian entities and figures or complicit with the Tehran regime.
In 2015, Iran signed the nuclear deal with the United States, France, United Kingdom, China, Russia and Germany. In 2018, former US President Donald Trump chose to unilaterally withdraw from the said agreement.
