US offers to North Korea talks with no preconditions

After North Korea announced that it had tested a “new type of submarine-launched ballistic missile”, the United States and Britain brought Pyongyang’s nuclear program to the UN Security Council.

Greenfield, in a statement to reporters, condemned North Korea’s ballistic missile test and said that these tests violated UN Security Council resolutions.

Stating that North Korea’s latest ballistic missile test was a “reckless provocation”, Thomas Greenfield called on Pyongyang to avoid further provocation.

Pointing out that it is time to establish “sustainable and fundamental dialogue” for the complete denuclearization of the Korean Peninsula, Greenfield said that they offered North Korea a meeting without preconditions.

Thomas Greenfield also emphasized that they are ready to work closely with the international community to reduce tensions in the region.

North Korea conducted short-range ballistic tests on September 15, and missile tests on September 28, which the North Korean Central News Agency (KCNA) described as “newly developed hypersonic”.

The UN Security Council has imposed economic and military sanctions on North Korea since 2006 because of its nuclear program.
