The official statement from US Central Command read: “The US military has conducted a long-range counterterrorism operation against an ISIS-K planner. The drone strike took place in the Nangahar province of Afghanistan. Early indications are that we have destroyed the target.”
According to the statement, there were no civilian casualties in the attack. It is still unclear how the person attacked is related to the August 26 bombing.
The airstrikes come a day after US President Joe Biden vowed to track down and make those behind pay the price. On August 27, Pentagon leaders said they were ready to strike back whenever President Biden ordered.
