UP | 26 year old Shahana’s husband Akil Qureshi is an accused in some cow slaughter case in Bulandshahr, UP. Akil died after confronting the police at home on the intervening night of 23 and 24 May.
The incident took place around 1 pm. Police claim that Qureshi died while fleeing from the scene. While the eyewitness wife and children say that they saw the police beating and pushing Akil.
The wife repeatedly asks, “I was on the roof, trembling with fear. In front of me they kicked Akil and pushed him off the roof. He abused me and said he would throw me too. After that he left.” . My children are very young, what can I do now, can you tell me what to do? “
Shahana recalls the incident, “Three policemen came, they started demanding money from my husband.” They sell meat, so those policemen come every week, 15 days or a month to collect money. My husband used to get scared and used to give money and did not even tell me properly. When I used to ask them why they gave money, they did not give a clear answer. ”
She says that there was not enough money to eat due to the lockdown and the meat shop was also closed. She said, “So when he asked for 5000 rupees this time, my husband said that he will give it the next morning. He got angry and caught his collar and said that money is needed now. Akil repeated the same thing again. He hit Akil, kicked and threw him down the roof. I saw.”
Akil’s daughters also repeat the same allegation, which was present on the terrace at that time.
The family took Akil to three hospitals between 24 and 27 May. He died in a hospital in Delhi on 27th.
Tahir, Aakil’s cousin, says that he went to the police station to complain, but he met SP Crime on 29 May when there was no hearing. The officer said that an inquiry would be conducted.
Tahir told that the SDM has also said that they will look into the matter.
Police refuses accusations
When the SP (villager) was asked if the three policemen asked Akil for money and then pushed him from the roof, he said, “The person was a criminal and the police went to meet him. First the family said that he is not at home and the door did not open, after which he ran to the roof and fell and got injured.”
The SP said, “Nobody went there nor was the police beaten him. He has jumped like this before. This time he got injured.”
When asked about the investigation, he said, “The investigation is going on, the report should come in a week.”
