The UN special envoy for Syria Geir Pedersen, on the eve of the meeting between the presidents of Turkey Recep Tayyip Erdogan and the Russian Federation, Vladimir Putin, called on them to help ensure peace in Syrian Idlib.
During a briefing at the UN Security Council, Pedersen noted that Syria is divided into several zones in which international players compete with each other.
The diplomat stated that attacks on the camps in which there are displaced persons, especially on the Turkish-Syrian border, have intensified in Idlib.
“I am convinced that the situation on the ground in Idlib will be an important issue at tomorrow’s meeting between Putin and Erdogan, and I call on these influential leaders to help bring about peace. A lot depends on this, ”said Pedersen.
According to him, the inter-Syrian parties were asked to reconvene the Constitutional Committee. Pedersen announced that the committee will meet for its sixth meeting in Geneva on 18 October. The special envoy added that he plans to meet with the co-chairs the day before the meeting.
