Two people armed with explosives carried out a suicide attack at the Turkish Ministry of the Interior, in the capital Ankara, in which both were killedaccording to local authorities.
Despite the nature of the attack, only one of them managed to blow himself up at the door of the building, while the other was neutralized by the authorities with a shot to the head before he could activate his bomb.
“One of the two terrorists, prepared as a human bomb, blew himself up at the door of the Ministry and the other was neutralized with a shot to the head before having the opportunity to do the same”declared the Minister of the Interior, Ali Yerlikaya, in an appearance before the press.
Yerlikaya added in his statements that two police officers were injured in the attack, but that there is no fear for their lives.
Likewise, the minister expressed his determination to continue fighting “all types of terrorism and organized crime,” without attributing responsibility for the attack to any group at the moment.
The minister asked citizens not to spread images of the attack on social networks and announced that a judicial investigation would be initiated against those who do so.
Turkish journalists shared on the X network, formerly known as Twitter, Videos from security cameras showed how a van stops in front of the entrance to the Ministry and two men get outone of whom runs towards the building and the other stays next to the vehicle when a large explosion occurs.
The vehicle belonged to a veterinarian in Kayseri province, about 300 kilometers southeast of Ankara, according to the Sabah newspaper.
The subject was found dead of a gunshot to the head last night in the town of Avlaga, in a mountainous area in the south of the province. It is suspected that the perpetrators of the attack murdered him to steal his van.
