Turkmenistan has applied to join the World Trade Organization (WTO). WTO Director General Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala announced this on Twitter, the Turkmen news agency ORIENT reports.
Atageldi Khaldzhanov, Permanent Representative of Turkmenistan to the UN Office in Geneva, handed a letter of application addressed to the Director General of the WTO signed by Deputy Prime Minister Serdar Berdimuhamedov.
The application will be considered by WTO member countries and observers at the 12th Ministerial Conference, which will be held in Geneva from November 30 to December 3, 2021 – for the first time in four years.
It is planned that the Minister of Finance and Economy of Turkmenistan Mukhammetgeldy Serdarov will speak at the plenary session of the conference.
In July 2020, Turkmenistan was granted observer status in the WTO.
