The issues of interaction in the field of human rights were discussed during online talks between Deputy Foreign Minister of Turkmenistan Vep Khadzhiev and Regional Representative of the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights for Central Asia Richard Komenda, the website “Turkmenistan: Golden Age” reports.
The meeting was also attended by UN Resident Coordinator in Turkmenistan Dmitry Shlapochenko.
During the talks, a constructive exchange of views took place on the implementation by Turkmenistan of its obligations in the field of human rights and the provisions of the relevant conventions.
The parties noted the achievements of Turkmenistan in the field of human rights and discussed the procedures for the practical implementation of humanitarian standards and norms in national legislation.
The parties also discussed the activities of the Working Group of the Interdepartmental Commission to ensure the fulfillment of Turkmenistan’s international obligations in the field of human rights and international humanitarian law. In this regard, the key directions for the implementation of the Joint Action Plan of the Interdepartmental Commission and the UN Office in Turkmenistan for the second half of 2021 were considered.
The Turkmen side expressed gratitude to the Office of the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights for Central Asia for technical assistance and coordination of activities in the implementation of UN human rights projects in Turkmenistan.
