Turkey’s Chili Pepper Exports Grow 46% In H1


Exports of chili peppers from Turkey in January-June increased by 46 percent compared to the same period last year – up to $ 4.73 million.

The Anadolu agency cites such data with reference to the Association of Exporters of Southeast Anatolia (GAİB).

In January-June last year, exports of chili peppers from Turkey amounted to $ 3.236 million.

In general, in 2020, the volume of foreign supplies of Turkish chili peppers amounted to $ 7.637 million. The products entered the shelves in 107 countries.

In the first half of this year, 1,913 tons of Turkish chili came to the markets of 96 countries.

Among the importing countries are Germany, the Netherlands, Great Britain, Iraq, USA, France, Russia, UAE, Nigeria, Cuba, Paraguay, Libya, Canada, Oman, Japan, Jordan, Ethiopia, Egypt, Malta and Kenya.

In particular, the export of chili peppers to Germany amounted to $ 1.236 million, the Netherlands – $ 869 thousand and the United Kingdom – $ 448 thousand.

Isa Kyzyldemir, chairman of the Sanliurfa Chamber of Commerce and Industry, told Anadolu that the chili pepper grown in Sanliurfa and called isot by locals is in great demand both abroad and in Turkey.

“In other countries, they learned about the unique taste that Turkish pepper gives to dishes. I am sure that they will no longer be able to abandon our isot, ”added Kyzyldemir.
