A water bomber plane crashed on Saturday while extinguishing a forest fire in Kahramanmaraş province in southern Turkey.
The Anadolu Agency correspondent claimed, citing official local sources, that contact with the plane rented by Russia from the Turkish Forest Directorate was cut off as he intervened to extinguish fires in the province. of Kahramanmaraş.
He said search and rescue teams moved to the crash site.
In a statement to the Anadolu Agency, the mayor of Kahramanmaraş, Omar Farouk Coşkun, indicated that a fire had broken out during the day following a lightning, at a site in the “February 12” district of the province.
“We sent a plane into the area, but the contact was cut before it crashed. We then dispatched a large number of teams to the site, ”he concluded, stressing that the operation to extinguish the fire by air and by land is continuing.
The mayor of Kahramanmaraş pointed out that the plane fell in the Kısık valley, located in the Beşen region.
For its part, the Turkish Defense Ministry announced that the Russian aircraft had taken off from Adana province to participate in the efforts to extinguish the Kahramanmaraş fire, before crashing.
Turkish Defense said in a statement that a plane and a helicopter had been dispatched to the scene to support search and rescue efforts.
For its part, the Russian Ministry of Defense has indicated that the aircraft is of the “Beriev Be-200” type.
“Eight people were on board the aircraft: five Russian soldiers and three Turks,” said the Russian Defense.
The province of Kahramanmaras said in a statement that its rescue teams immediately rushed to the scene of the accident.
“No survivors among the crew members, according to preliminary information,” the statement added.
