Five PKK terrorists surrendered to Turkish security forces on Sunday following persuasive action, the Interior Ministry said.
The ministry said in a statement that terrorists joined the PKK between 1999 and 2016 and were active in Iraq and Syria.
With these latest surrenders, the number of terrorists who laid down their arms this year thanks to persuasion efforts now stands at 151, adds the ministry.
Turkey has passed a repentance law that allows terrorists who lay down their arms to benefit from reduced sentences.
In recent years, the PKK, defeated and demoralized by the successful operations of the Turkish security forces, has lost many members and failed to attract new ones, say the Turkish authorities.
During its 35-year campaign of terror against Turkey, the PKK – classified as a terrorist organization by Turkey, the US and the EU – has been responsible for the deaths of more than 40,000 people , including women, children and infants.
