The President of the Republic of Turkey, Recep Tayyip Erdogan offered his condolences following the death of Ozdemir Bayraktar, the founder of the aircraft manufacturer Baykar.

“I wish divine mercy to my friend Ozdemir Bayraktar, founder of the aircraft manufacturer Baykar, whose efforts have guided the Advancement in National Technologies. We will never forget his contributions to our country,” Erdogan wrote on Twitter.

Bayraktar died at the age of 72. He founded the Baykar Makina company in 1984 in order to strengthen Turkey’s activities in the automotive industry.

Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev awarded the Order of Karabakh to Ozdemir Bayraktar in 2021, for the contribution of Bayraktar TB2 armed drones to the liberation of Nagorno-Karabakh from Armenian occupation.

Ozdemir Bayraktar originally designed the Bayraktar TB2 and Bayraktar Akinci drones.
