Tunisian security forces announced on Tuesday that they had found shells and landmines abandoned after the terrorist attack carried out by Daesh in 2016 in the town of Ben Guerdane, in the south of the country.

The press release specifies that the police “found, on Monday, 8 combat shells and 3 anti-vehicle mines laid near an abandoned house which had been used by terrorist elements who infiltrated Tunisia, during of the events of Ben Guerdane, in 2016 “.

The same statement stressed that “coordination has been established with the Department of Military Engineering of the Ministry of Defense to seize and detonate the aforementioned ammunition.”

The search process for mines and shells “was carried out following precise intelligence information indicating the presence of ammunition and explosives in one of the abandoned houses in the region of Ben Guerdane,” the statement added. .

On March 7, 2016, members of the terrorist organization Daesh attacked the headquarters of military and security barracks in the town of Ben Guerdane, near the Libyan border, and engaged in combat with the security forces and the army.

The attack left 55 members of the terrorist organization dead, 12 in the ranks of the security forces and 7 dead civilians, while 52 other suspects were arrested for planning to establish an “emirate of Daesh “, according to Tunisian officials.
