Tunisian deputy Fayçal Tebbini was arrested on Monday at his home in Nabeul (north-east) by a unit of the judicial police which is executing a warrant issued by the first investigating judge of the Court of First Instance of Jendouba, Tunis Afrique Presse (TAP / Official) reported.
Tebbini, founder and leader of the party “The voice of farmers”, is the subject of a complaint filed on October 10, 2019, by the former public prosecutor for “dissemination of false news, defamatory attacks on social networks and call for civil disobedience, “said the spokesperson for the Jendouba Court of First Instance, Skander Zoghlami, relayed by TAP.
During a meeting transmitted on his Facebook page, Tebbini “had insulted the public prosecutor (who lodged a complaint against him) and incited participants in the meeting to acts of vandalism”. Benefiting from parliamentary immunity, Tebbini had refused to appear before the investigating judge, added the same source.
Tebbini’s arrest comes a few days after President Kaïs Saïed sacked Head of Government Hichem Méchichi and seized executive power.
