TRNC Prime Minister Saner: Crisis desk has been set up regarding oil leaking from Syria to the sea

Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) Prime Minister Ersan Saner, Syria welding oil spillof CyprusA report in the Prime Ministry regarding the progress towards crisis desk stated that it was established.

According to the written statement made by the Press and Public Relations Directorate of the Prime Ministry, Prime Minister Saner stated that the oil leaking from Syria to the sea and moving towards the island was followed in cooperation with Turkey.

Prime Minister Saner said, “The crisis desk has been set up regarding the oil leaking from Syria to the sea.”

Saner said:

“The progress of the oil leaking from Syria towards our island is closely followed by the Prime Ministry, all relevant ministries and units in cooperation with the motherland Turkey. Let no one doubt that it will be done.”

TRNC Tourism and Environment Minister Fikri Ataoğlu said in a statement that all measures have been taken to deal with the fuel leaking from Syria.

Ataoğlu emphasized that the technical teams immediately started their work on the subject.

Noting that the Coast Guard teams are stationed in the Karpaz region, acting with the TRNC Security Forces Command, Ataoğlu stated that the Environmental Protection Department personnel are also present in the Karpaz region and are following the developments.

Ataoğlu also noted that a team of experts from Turkey will come to the island tomorrow and start working.

Expressing that he also contacted Adil Karaismailoğlu, Minister of Transport and Infrastructure of the Republic of Turkey, Ataoğlu noted that with the instruction of Minister Karaismailoğlu, 3 ships set out with their equipment and were ready for intervention.

Ataoğlu emphasized that the expert team will intervene very quickly according to the course of the fuel, which is monitored via satellite, and stated that the necessary action will be taken professionally.

According to the news in the media of the Assad regime, an oil spill occurred at the beginning of last week from the Thermal Power Plant in the city of Banyas, located on the Mediterranean coast in northwest Syria.
