In the Palais de Justice in Paris, the trial began in the case of the November 2015 terrorist attacks, which killed 130 people.
The process that has begun has already received the name “Case of the Century” in France.
There are 20 defendants in the case. The trial will be attended by 14 of them. The case of six more accused will be considered in their absence, five of them have died.
The main suspect Salah Abdeslam and 13 defendants arrived in the courtroom.
Meanwhile, the police have taken heightened security measures around the Palais de Justice in Paris.
The process will take 9 months. The testimony will be given by 1,800 witnesses. The court will also have to hear more than 300 lawyers.
Former French President François Hollande will testify as a witness on November 10, and former Interior Minister Bernard Cazeneuve on November 17.
The defendants face from 6 years in prison to life in prison.
The court is expected to make a final decision on the case on May 24 or 25, 2022.
