At the first 3-cushion carom billiards World Cup of 2024, which took place in March in Bogota (Colombia), Tran Quyet Chien excellently won the championship. Quyet Chien’s perfect start seemed like a good omen, opening up the most successful year of competition in the career of the player born in 1984 in particular and Vietnamese 3-band carom billiards in general up to this point.
7 World Cup stages have been organized by UMB in 2024. Among them, Tran Quyet Chien has been crowned twice, respectively in Bogota and most recently in Veghel (Netherlands) in October. Tran Quyet Chien almost had a perfect ending if he won the title of “best player of 2024”. The Vietnamese player is equal on points with Dick Jaspers (born in 1965, Dutch, won 31 World Cup championships) on the total achievement rankings of 7 World Cup stages.
However, Tran Quyet Chien only finished in 2nd place overall, because his performance at the most recent World Cup stage (Seoul, South Korea in November) was worse than Jaspers (won the championship).Tran Quyet Chien once rose to No. 1 on the world rankings in June. Even though the 40-year-old player only held this position for more than a month, that was enough to make Vietnamese fans excited.
