Stocks vs FD Return:Even though the stock market has performed tremendously in the last 3 years i.e. between May 10, 2021 and May 10, 2024, some big companies disappointed in giving returns. Out of the top 100 (Nifty 100) in market cap, there are more than 10 stocks which are lagging behind 3 year FD returns in giving returns. They have either got low returns or negative returns. These stocks include market leaders like HDFC, Infosys, Wipro, HUL, Dabur, SBI Cards. While banks or post offices are giving 6.5% to 7.5% annual returns in 3 years, these stocks have disappointed investors.

Market gave 47% return in 3 years
If we talk about the last 3 years, the return of the main index Sensex was around 47 percent. During this period the index strengthened by more than 23060 points. Whereas the return of Nifty was also more than 47 percent. Nifty strengthened by around 7100 points in 3 years. The return of midcap index during this period has been 97 percent and the return of small cap index has been 102 percent. The return of the broader market BSE500 index was around 60 percent. In the last 3 years, Bank Nifty has given 43 percent return and Nifty IT index has given 25 percent return.
