Today is the 63rd birthday of Indian -origin astronaut Kalpana Chawla. Although he is not among us, his name is recorded on the pages of history. Today, whenever there is talk of the upliftment and moving of women, the example of Kalpana Chawla is first given.
Kalpana Chawla was born on 17 March 1962 in Karnal. Kalpana Chawla was a leading astronaut and the first Indian woman to travel to space.
He created history as a mission expert on Space Shuttle Columbia in 1997 and lost his life in the Colombia accident on 1 February 2003.
How was Kalpana Chawla’s early life:
Chawla completed his early education in Karnal and then received a degree in Aeronautical Engineering from Punjab Engineering College, Chandigarh.
In 1982, he moved to the United States for further studies, where he completed the Master in Aerospace Engineering from University of Texas at Arlington and University of Colorado at Boulder. His career began in NASA in 1995 where he was selected for Astronaut Corps.
Space travel 2 times:
Kalpana Chawla has traveled to space not once but 2 times. She first made history on the first space mission, STS-87 in 1997, and became the first Indian-origin woman to go into space.
Again In the year 2000, Chawla was selected for his second spacecraft, STS-107. However, its operation was delayed significantly, but was eventually launched on January 16, 2003. Unfortunately, when the space shuttle was returning to Colombia again on 1 February, all the seven crew members including Chawla lost their lives.
