The US administration has started talks with various parties interested in the acquisition of TikTok, with the aim of defining the future of the application within a period of thirty days. President Donald Trump said he had discussed the issue with numerous interlocutors, underlining the strong interest shown in the platform. According to sources close to the negotiations, the administration is developing a plan to ensure TikTok’s operational continuity, involving the software company Oracle and a group of external investors. The agreement currently being negotiated would provide that ByteDance, the current owner based in China, would maintain a stake in the company, while the management of data collection and software updates would be entrusted to Oracle, already a supplier of TikTok’s web infrastructure.
Despite rumors of possible deals with Oracle, President Trump said he had not directly discussed the application acquisition with Larry Ellison, the company’s co-founder. He also specified that negotiations are underway with various important entities, which have expressed a concrete interest in purchasing TikTok. The president declared that a final decision will be made within thirty days, while Congress has given a deadline of ninety days to complete the operation. The sources also said details of the eventual deal with Oracle remain flexible and subject to possible change. The scope of the negotiations could extend not only to US operations, but also to other geographic areas. Meanwhile, National Public Radio reported that the discussions concern the acquisition of TikTok’s global operations, citing sources familiar with the negotiations. Oracle has not yet released an official statement on the matter.
