This time there will be severe cold due to La Nino effect, know what is El Nino and La Nina.
Winters are slowly spreading in the northern part of the country. Snowfall has started in many hilly areas since Sunday. Yesterday, there was heavy snowfall in many parts of Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal and Uttarakhand. In such a situation, the temperature is falling in the northern states of the country, while the Meteorological Department has also ordered rain in many states of North India, due to which the cold is expected to increase further.
The Meteorological Department has said that this time December will prove to be the coldest month. The weather department has predicted that there will be severe cold in December. People of North India will have to bear the brunt of cold and fog along with a huge drop in temperature. IMD has attributed the cold this time as ‘La Nina effect’.
Actually, the main reason for cold, heat and rain in the country is due to ‘El Nino and La Nina effect’. So let us know what is El-Nino and La-Nina effect-
El-Nino and La-Nina are a kind of weather patterns. These are weather patterns that are considered very complex. Both of these patterns occur when ocean temperatures vary across the Pacific Ocean. These are opposite phases of the El Nino-Southern Oscillation cycle. The ENSO cycle reflects temperature fluctuations between the ocean and the atmosphere in the east-central equatorial Pacific Ocean region. El Niño and La Niña events typically last 9 to 12 months, but some longer-lasting events can last for years.
Know what is El Nino effect
The El Niño effect is a phenomenon characterized by higher than normal ocean temperatures in the central and eastern Pacific Ocean. If understood in simple language, due to this effect the temperature becomes very hot. Due to this, the warm surface water present in the western Pacific region starts moving eastwards along the equator, which affects the weather of India. In such a situation, one has to face terrible heat and drought conditions arise. Let us tell you that El Nino occurs in the central and east-central equatorial Pacific region. It occurs every 2 to 5 years.
La Niña and El Niño are natural climate patterns that occur in the tropical Pacific. These patterns are known as El Nino-Southern Oscillation (ENSO). There are many differences between these two patterns.
Know what is La Nina effect
The effect of La Nina is opposite to that of El Nino. In this, the waters of the Pacific Ocean near the western coasts of the American continents become unusually cold, causing the trade winds to become very strong. Due to this, the hot water of the Pacific Ocean starts moving towards Asia. La Niña is caused by the formation of cooler than normal waters in the tropical Pacific. During La Niña events the winds are even stronger than normal. This is an event that decides the course of the monsoon. The word La Nina is from Spanish language which means little girl.
It is noteworthy that this is not the first time that ‘La Nina effect’ is being seen in India. Even before this, the effect of ‘La Nina effect’ was visible during winter in 2001, which lasted for 7 months. Now after 22 years, ‘La Nina Effect’ has once again made a comeback in winter.
