This country imposed COVID lockdown on people without vaccination, ban on leaving their homes

  • Corona virus lockdown imposed on people without vaccine in Austria
  • These people are banned from coming out of their homes, they are allowed to go out only on basic needs.
  • 2 million people in Austria will be affected by this lockdown, the pace of vaccination is slow

The European country Austria has announced a Covid lockdown across the country. During this lockdown, people will be banned from leaving their homes without getting the vaccine. Austrian Chancellor Alexander Schalenberg announced on Sunday that the lockdown would take effect from next week. Without getting the vaccine, people will be able to come out of their homes only for very important work.

Guidelines issued for people without vaccination
The Austrian government said that without taking a dose of the Covid vaccine, people will be able to leave the house only for basic needs. This includes going to work, buying groceries, or having a medical emergency. The decision to impose the lockdown has been taken together by the government and the heads of the Austrian federal states.

It is our job as the Austrian government to protect the people… so we decided that from Monday… there will be a lockdown for people who are not vaccinated.

Alexander Schalenberg (Chancellor of Austria)

Restrictions will be issued from early Monday
Schalenberg said the lockdown would go into effect early Monday. He said that during this time the police would monitor the compliance of the preventive measures and the offenders would face punishment. Corona virus cases in Austria are currently stable, but the government does not want to take any risk in view of the increasing infection in European countries.

2 million people in Austria will be directly affected
According to the APA news agency, the new ban affects about 2 million people out of Austria’s 8.9 million population. The lockdown does not apply to people under the age of 12 as they are not eligible to be vaccinated against COVID-19 under the law of the land. So far only 6 million people in Austria have received at least one dose of the Covid vaccine.

Vaccination slow in Austria
Austria has one of the lowest vaccination rates in Western Europe. So far, only about 65 percent of the total population has been vaccinated. The country has seen a surge in new infections over the past few weeks. Austria recorded more than 13,152 cases on Saturday, compared to 9,943 cases a week earlier on November 6.
