These world leaders expressed grief over the demise of former PM Manmohan Singh, paid tribute
Former Prime Minister of India Manmohan Singh passed away on Thursday at AIIMS, Delhi. There is a wave of mourning in the country and the world due to his demise, while on one hand all the leaders of India are expressing condolences on his demise, on the other hand many leaders of the world also paid tribute to him. In this sequence, many world leaders including French President Emmanuel Macron and Nepalese President Ramchandra Paudel have expressed condolence on the demise of Manmohan Singh.
Macron said India had lost a “great man” and France a “true friend”. Macro has expressed condolences to his family and the people of India. In a post shared on Twitter, Macron said, “India has lost a great man and France a true friend, Dr. Manmohan Singh. He had dedicated his life to his country. Our thoughts are with his family and the people of India.”

Nepalese President Ramchandra Paudel described former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh as a “visionary leader” of India and expressed his condolences to the Government and people of India and the bereaved family members.
“We are deeply saddened by the demise of former Prime Minister of India, Dr. Manmohan Singh. Dr. Singh was a visionary leader of India. I convey my heartfelt condolences and sympathies to the Government and people of India and the members of the bereaved family,” Paudel posted on Instagram.
Former Afghan President Hamid Karzai said in a post on Twitter that India has lost one of its most illustrious sons. Calling him an “unwavering ally and friend of the people of Afghanistan”, Karzai deeply mourned Singh’s demise and expressed his deepest condolences. “#India has lost one of its most brilliant sons,” Karzai said on Twitter. #Dr_Manmohan_Singh was an unwavering ally and friend to the people of #Afghanistan. I deeply mourn his demise and extend my deepest condolences to his family, the Government and the people of India. May his soul rest in eternal peace.”

Former Maldivian President Mohammed Nasheed wrote that he found the former Prime Minister to be a “kind father figure” and a good friend of the Maldives. “Deeply saddened to hear the news of Manmohan Singh’s demise. I always enjoyed working with him and he was a kind father figure. He was a good friend of Maldives.”

Russian Ambassador to India Denis Alipov said Singh’s demise is a moment of great sadness and grief for India and Russia. He wrote on Twitter, “This is a moment of great sadness and grief for India and Russia. Dr. Manmohan Singh’s contribution to our bilateral relations was incomparable. His gentle demeanor was always attractive, as no one could question his expertise as an economist and his commitment to India’s progress.”

It is noteworthy that Manmohan Singh, born in the year 1932, served as the Prime Minister of India twice from 2004 to 2014. He took oath as Prime Minister for the first time in 2004, when the Congress won the 2004 Lok Sabha elections against the Atal Bihari Vajpayee-led NDA. He served his second term from 2009 to 2014. After that in 2014, Prime Minister Narendra Modi replaced him.
