In the videos of Lok Sabha proceedings shown on TV channels, we have often seen that all the seats are kept in a big hall, where all the MPs sit. The speaker’s seat is placed in front of him like a judge’s seat. At the bottom, on the extreme right, the Prime Minister sits, while on the left side, the opposition MPs sit.
Here the seats of all the MPs are fixed and the MPs sit on the basis of their fixed seats. Here 545 MPs sit together. But do you know that among the 545 MPs’ seats, there is one seat number which is not included in the seat count. This seat number is none other than seat number 420.
Actually, in our country, right from direction to number is considered auspicious and inauspicious. Numbers are given special importance here. The date is observed for any auspicious work. For this the numbers are calculated. Even everyone has some lucky number and there are people behind it. Everyone has their own arguments. However, there are some people who do not believe in numbers at all. One such number is ‘420’. This number is not considered appropriate in our country and its effect is also visible in the Parliament of the country.
Just as there is no 13th floor in a multi-storey building. For example, if the floor coming after the 12th floor is the 13th, it is counted as the 14th floor. A similar story is about seat number 420. Actually, under ‘Section 420’ of the Indian Penal Code, a case is registered against people committing forgery and fraud. Therefore this number is considered a symbol of fraud in our country. While talking, people also mention the number ‘420’ for fraudsters. Therefore, seat number ‘420’ has not been given a place in the Parliament of the country. This number is not being allotted to any MP since the 14th Lok Sabha.
During the 14th Lok Sabha, seat numbers were being allotted to the MPs elected from different parts of the country. During this time, seat number 420 was allotted to a member. Which the member considered an insult towards himself and demanded the Speaker to cancel it. Following the member’s objection, the Lok Sabha canceled seat number 420 and replaced it with chair number 419-A. Let us tell you that the decision of seating of all the MPs and members in the Lok Sabha rests with the Speaker of the Lok Sabha. Lok Sabha seats are divided into 6 blocks. Each block has 11 rows.
