The World Health Organization (WHO) made a formal announcement about this variant for the first time on 22 February 2022. It has been placed in the ‘Variants of Concern’ category. Five variants of the corona virus fall into this category.
Why is the BA.2 sub-variant more infective?
The genetic composition of this virus is special. This makes it difficult to track with conventional methods such as RT-PCR. The BA.2 is more advanced than the Omicron sub-variant BA.1. Why this is so, is being studied.
What are the symptoms of infection caused by BA.2?
The Stealth variant of the Omicron shares the same features as the older variant. That is, no different types of symptoms have been detected so far. However, it is also true that the corona virus behaves differently in different human bodies. Therefore, it is difficult to reach precise conclusions about the characteristics of a single variant or sub-variant. However, experts say that dizziness and fatigue are the most common symptoms of the BA.2 sub-variant. These symptoms begin to appear within two to three days after exposure to the virus. Apart from this, there are some other symptoms like mild fever, cold, shortness of breath, sore throat, headache, body ache.
BA.2 infection has spread all over the world
The BA.2 sub-variant is responsible for the current COVID wave in China. Corona cases have increased rapidly in the UK in recent weeks. France, Switzerland, Italy and the Netherlands are also seeing an increase in corona cases. More than half of the new cases of corona in Germany have the BA.2 sub-variant. They account for 11 percent of the total cases in America. The BA.2 sub-variant has replaced the BA.1 sub-variant in many countries. A few months back, the BA.1 sub-variant had overtaken the Delta variant.
